Katie Rohr Howell is the vocal music teacher at Lansing High School, where she directs three choirs, teaches music theory and music appreciation, and acts as music director for the high school musical. She also directs Summer Sing, a community choir run through the Ithaca Affiliated Choruses. Before moving to the high school, she taught elementary school music in Lansing for several years, and high school and middle school music in Horseheads, NY. Katie received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Ithaca College and a master’s degree in music education from the Eastman School of Music. In the summer of 2000, she had the great privilege of traveling to Kimberley, South Africa with the Kimberley Project, where she taught vocal music to high school and middle school aged students and learned traditional South African songs from local musicians. Katie loves working with all age groups, and she works to create a relaxed yet robust atmosphere for her choir members.
