Laura Sciavolino currently serves as a Suzuki violin specialist at Parker Elementary School, a Title I public school in Houston, Texas. She has been active as an instructor at workshops in Texas and at music schools throughout New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. An avid performer and chamber musician, she was recently awarded a string quartet fellowship residency at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire. Originally from New York, Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Violin Performance from Ithaca College, a Master’s degree and Artist Diploma in Violin Performance from Purchase College Conservatory of Music, and a Master’s degree in Suzuki Pedagogy from Ithaca College where she completed long-term Suzuki teacher training with Carrie Reuning Hummel. Her major violin teachers include Susan Waterbury, Calvin Wiersma, Laurie Smukler and Nicholas DiEugenio. A strong believer in life-long learning, Laura has completed many supplemental pedagogical courses from respected teachers such as Carol Smith, Kimberly Meier-Sims, Susan Baer, Nancy Lokken, Cathy Lee, Edward Kreitman, Ronda Cole, Richard Mooney, and Daina Volodka-Staggs.
