Enrichment Classes

After carefully reading the following enrichment class options and requirements, please indicate on your registration form your first, second, and third choices in the spaces provided.

New this year: All students in books 1-3 will automatically be given 2 Enrichment courses. Students in book 4 and up (all instruments) will be given one Enrichment course and also be scheduled for orchestra.

Note: The institute cannot guarantee your first choice. Students who do not sign up for enrichment will not be assigned to an enrichment. When scheduling permits, students will be assigned to an age- or level-appropriate enrichment class.

Fiddling is open to violinists and violists in book 3 and up who want to learn traditional fiddle tunes, led by Tim Ball. Participants in fiddling will perform as the live band for our family contradance at the end of the week.

Fiddling for Cellists (book 3 and up), also led by Tim Ball, is a course designed especially for cellists. Participants in fiddling will perform as the live band for our family contradance at the end of the week.

Creative Movement is open to all instruments and ages! Led by Ithaca Institute veteran faculty member Bob Oates, this class gets students moving in their day. Students will learn Suzuki minuet dances, rhythmic games, and more.

Viola for Violinists is open to violinists in book 3 and up who would like to explore the technique and clef of the viola. David Levine, violist and violinist extraordinaire, leads the journey to the purple side! Instruments are provided.

Chorus is open to all students and all instruments! Led by Dr. Beatrice Olesko, students will develop ensemble, expression and intonation through learning traditional and folk songs.

Introduction to Composition and Arranging is open to all students at all levels and is led by Christopher Sforza. The art of composing and arranging is a creative and meaningful experience that benefits all musicians. This enrichment will explore and experiment with the musical tools needed to create our own compositions and/or arrangements from which can include unique harmonies, variations on a theme, newly composed melodies, and accompaniments.

Reading Orchestra is for beginning readers who aren’t yet eligible for orchestra (below book 4 for all instruments). Students must have some prior reading experience to join the reading orchestra.

Bucket Band Drumming:  New this year!  Led by Christopher Sforza, this high-powered musical ensemble for all instruments and all levels will be one you won't want to miss!
