IC Tips and Reminders

  • Students should have a declared theme. If they do not, they can declare their theme in Workflow. 

  • Students may “double dip” with Themes & Perspectives courses, if a course is dually designated, for example as both ICC SC (Natural Science) and ICC SO (Social Science.) HOWEVER, they still must have a total of 12 credits in Themes & Perspectives, so double-dipping will require them to take an extra 3 credits in their Theme in ANY Perspective. In the example used above, where a student double-dipped, using one course to satisfy both the Natural Science and Social Science requirements, he/she will have to take an extra 3 credits in their Theme – in any of the four Perspective areas. 

  • Students with a double major only need to fulfill the Themes & Perspectives area for ONE MAJOR, and can use required courses from the SECOND MAJOR to do so. For example, an English and Anthropology double major can decide to complete the T&P area for their English major, and can use courses required for their Anthropology major (like ANTH 10400, Cultural Anthroplogy) to do so, provided they’ve been designated as ICC courses. 

  • Students should declare their H&S CLA option by the end of their sophomore year, or by the end of their first year at the college for transfer students. It is a good practice to have the CLA Planning Statement open on your computer when advisees come in for their appointment, and have them complete it and submit it before they leave your office! You will know if they have submitted a Planning Statement by looking at the Test Scores area in Homer. An HSCLA “score” of 1 means they have submitted a Planning Statement. A “score” of 2 means they have fulfilled all CLA requirements and their CLA should show as Met on their degree evaluation. The Planning Statement can be found here, along with instructions for completing it and a description of the various H&S CLA options for fulfilling that requirement.
