Madison shares her experiences:
"Growing up just fifteen minutes up the lake, Ithaca College had always been on my radar. I was drawn to the Health Sciences with a Planned Clinical Emphasis major because of the flexibility and ability to create my own emphasis. This allowed me to craft a major that perfectly matched my career goal of becoming a Genetic Counselor. I plan to attend a Master’s Program in Genetic Counseling in the Fall, though I haven’t decided where yet.
When looking back on my college experience, one memory that stands out to me is participating in the James J. Whalen Academic Symposium. Being able to participate in undergraduate research, especially at the intersection of healthcare and genetics, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but being able to present was even more enriching. It was an amazing feeling to take lab work and turn it into an engaging presentation. It allowed me to learn skills like scientific writing, public speaking, and teamwork. Our hard work paid off and we ultimately won the James J. Whalen Award for Undergraduate Research, an honor I feel so lucky to have earned."
While at Ithaca College Madison also minored in Biology and Counseling, complementing her planned focus on genetics. She is currently enrolled in the Genetics program at University of North Carolina.
