A FTIR studies the vibrational and rotational interactions between atoms in molecules by looking at the molecules’ absorptions in the region of an infrared light. It is an indispensable tool used in organic and inorganic chemistry, and has been used routinely in quality control, dynamic measurement, identification and characterization of virtually any compounds in research and industry.
Purchased in 2008, our FTIR system allows spectra collection in the mid, far, and near-IR spectra ranges, from 7,800 to 350 cm-1 with the resolution of 0.125 cm-1. This system is using the Gold mid-IR optics with a KBr beamsplitter and DLaTGS detector w/KBr window. In addition, an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) device is attached for liquid or solid sample measurements. The system integrates advanced hardware features with the power and flexibility of OMNIC software. It has been used in experimental lab courses and research projects, such as gas phase study, product identification from organic labs, polymer reaction monitoring, and etc.
