The IC Mathematics Department works closely with the IC Education Department to offer a five-year pathway to earning bachelor’s and masters degrees and New York State teacher certification. These programs integrate coursework in education, mathematics content courses, and field-based learning experiences that connect our students to local schools under the supervision of IC faculty and mentor teachers.
As part of the five-year pathway or for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree elsewhere, Ithaca College offers
- The Master of Arts in Teaching leading to high school math teacher certification.
- The Master of Science in Childhood Education leading to elementary school teacher certification.
The math department is committed to providing the best, most up-to-date and appropriate education for students preparing to teach secondary school mathematics. Our programs align with documents from professional mathematics organizations including the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (PSSM) from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Mathematical Education of Teachers (MET) from the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). They also align well with the New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology (MST) that pertain to the field of mathematics.
