Clarinet Audition Requirements

Degree Page: Composition (B.M.)
Additional Application Requirements:
- Two (2) scores of original works (with sound files, if possible).
Audition Requirements:
- Approximately 15 minutes of music -- two (2) or three (3) works in contrasting styles.
- Major and melodic minor scales from memory.
- Sight-reading.

NOTE: All those auditioning are expected to perform without accompaniment.
NOTE:Students who have had bass clarinet as their primary instrument in high school may play one piece on bass as long as the other is played on soprano clarinet. Students may also play their scales on either instrument.Interview Requirements:
- Speak with a member of our Composition faculty and ask any specific questions you may have about the Composition degree program.

Audition Requirements:
- At least two (2) movements of a multi-movement work from the standard clarinet repertoire.
- One (1) shorter work in contrasting style, (e.g., a movement from a larger piece, an étude, or a shorter piece).
- Major and melodic minor scales from memory (minimum two (2) octaves); chromatic scale (from low E, minimum three (3) octaves).
- Sight-reading.

Audition Requirements:
- Approximately 15 minutes of music -- two (2) or three (3) works in contrasting styles.
- Major and melodic minor scales from memory.
- Sight-reading.

Audition Requirements:

Pre-screen Requirements:
- Two (2) pieces of contrasting styles.
- Three (3) scales and arpeggios of your choosing.

- Approximately 15 minutes of music -- two (2) or three (3) works in contrasting styles.
- Major and melodic minor scales from memory.
- Sight-reading.

Interview Requirements:
- Meet with members of the SRT faculty, practice critical listening skills, and discuss your background in audio engineering thus far. Approximately 20 minutes.
