Master of Ceremonies Douglas Armstrong retired from Ithaca College in 1995 after a teaching career of 27 years as professor of Foreign Languages. Professor Armstrong is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War as an Infantry platoon leader with the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Division.
Carsten P. Martensen is a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). Before assuming the position of director of the Ithaca College Catholic Community, Fr. Carsten spent twenty years in campus ministry at Northern Illinois University, Fordham Preparatory School and Saint Peter’s College, and seven years as pastor of St. Anthony Church in Oceanside (Long Island) New York.
Guest Speaker James R. Henry is a pastor/head of staff at the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca. His career has included teaching English and journalism in public schools and universities, including Ithaca College. Rev./Dr. Henry is a Vietnam era veteran having served the U.S. Coast Guard and as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy. He continues to serve voluntarily as a casualty assistance chaplain to assist Cornell military officers.
Today’s program is dedicated to Arthur Ostrander, Dean of the School of Music for the past 23 years. The committee wishes to thank Dr. Ostrander for his support of the Veterans Committee and this event since its inception in 2003. The committee also wishes to congratulate him on his retirement after 36 years at Ithaca College. Dr. Ostrander is a veteran of the United States Army.
