Participants will:
- Gain an in-depth understanding of The CROWN Act, the role of hair discrimination in the workplace and academia, and the importance of this legislation for the BIPOC community.
- Examine the limitations and exclusionary practices surrounding haircare services for BIPOC individuals in industries like entertainment, military, beauty schools, and predominantly white neighborhoods.
- Analyze media portrayals of Black hair, including representations in pop culture icons such as Blue Ivy and Beyoncé.
- Engage with a panel of BIPOC-serving celebrity hairstylists and industry insiders, discussing their career journeys and the challenges faced by people of color in the beauty industry.
- Learn about the certification process for becoming a licensed hairstylist, with a particular focus on natural hairstyling and braiding in New York, along with the legislation that surrounds these professions.
- Participate in hands-on workshops to master protective styles like braids, cornrows, and twists.
