College is full of experiences, and not all of them are planned. You might find yourself pulling an all-nighter for a project or sharing laughs over coffee at 2 AM. These spontaneous moments often lead to lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. Yes, there will be challenging times. You’ll prepare for exams that seem impossible and assignments that push you to your limits. It’s in these moments that you’ll learn resilience and the true power of determination.
This is your time to explore. Clubs, workshops, and electives outside your major are more worthwhile than you’d expect—even for introverts! The connections you make in college can open doors for years to come. Professors, peers, and alumni are part of your success network. The IC community is now your community, and we encourage you to connect with us at any point in your college journey.
You might come away from an “irrelevant” experience with new friends or skills. I once signed up for an acting class (THEA13100) on a whim, and it turned out to be a game-changer for my public speaking skills. You never know where a simple ‘yes’ can lead you. It’s good to stay true to your values and beliefs, but college is also a time to learn more about yourself and the world around you. Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore new ways of being.
College is a new and exciting experience—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. That’s why it’s important to take care of yourself and to lean on others when times get tough. Mental health is crucial. Seek support when you need it and know that it’s okay to take a break. People glorify the grind, but you definitely don’t want to stay grinding ‘til there’s nothing left! Your well-being is the foundation of your success. Like with any other journey, you’ve gotta give yourself time to rest.
