Ace the Application!

Tips and resources to improve your application to work with IT!

Before You Apply

Prepare Your Resume & Cover Letter

IT recommends using Microsoft Word to build and revise your resume and cover letter. After you have finalized your application materials, we recommend saving and uploading them as PDFs. Don't forget to rename them with your name!

Utilize Career Services!

The Interview

There are two rounds to IT's interview process. The first round is a virtual interview with a student manager and the IT Student Employment Manager. The second round is either an in-person or virtual interview with the supervisor of the area you are applying for.

Tips for Virtual Interviews with IT

  • Download Microsoft Teams in advance.
  • If possible, we recommend you make your call from a private/quiet room and test your device's audio, video, and internet connection in advance.
  • Utilize the "Blur my Background" feature
  • If you have technical issues, please contact your interviewer ASAP or attempt to conduct the interview over the phone as a last resort.

Dress To Impress!

IT recommends business casual clothing to make a good first impression. This can be as elaborate as a dress shirt and tie with slacks, or as simple as an elevated version to your typical wardrobe (hoodies are now crewneck sweaters and t-shirts are polo shirts, and polo shirts are now button-downs). Either way, it's critical to dress appropriately for your interview.

If business casual clothing is not accessible to you, we recommend borrowing from a friend or mentor, checking out resale stores locally or online for reduced cost, and visiting the Career Services Career Closet - free clothing available to check out for IC students!
