Patrol Officers
Uniformed officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day -- 365 days a year -- in police cars, on bicycles, and on foot. The officers have full police powers on the Ithaca College campus. They are authorized to carry weapons, investigate violations or suspected violations of law, make arrests, conduct searches, and carry out any other activity expected of a police officer in the state of New York. Patrol officers are trained to the same standards as their colleagues in municipal law enforcement.
Security Officers
Uniformed, state-certified security officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, year round. They patrol the residence halls and academic buildings to ensure building security, check fire-safety systems, and perform building-safety inspections. Although they are not police officers, they are authorized to enforce the Ithaca College Student Conduct Code and work closely with patrol officers in maintaining the security and safety of the College community.
Student Auxiliary Safety Patrol (SASP)
This group of student workers patrols the campus in pairs nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. whenever the College is in session. SASP members are trained to be alert to the safety needs of the Ithaca College community as they patrol the residence halls and parking lots, either on foot or on bicycle. They are always in radio contact with the public safety dispatcher. Additionally, they provide crowd and traffic control at special events. Learn more about our student patrol unit.
