Course: NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Bicycle Patrol Course
Course Information: Ithaca College will be hosting its Annual Police Mountain Bike School June 3-7, 2019.
Course Outline: This five day course is designed as an entry level training for law enforcement personnel utilizing specialized mountain bikes for patrol activities. The course combines classroom training (such as vehicle & traffic law and bicycle safety, performance and maintenance) with practical application exercises (such as mock scenarios, obstacle negotiation, dismounts, take downs, suspect contact and tactical response with firearms). Students will learn cycling techniques involving obstacles such as stairs, curbs, parking lots and off-road trails.
Training Site: Ithaca College Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, Ithaca, New York. Ithaca is situated in the center of New York State’s Finger Lakes Region. Ithaca College is within walking distance of Downtown Ithaca. Driving Directions: http://ithaca.edu/about/directions/
Course Fee & Lodging: The fee for this course is $290 per student. This fee includes training materials, one meal per day, access to College recreation and fitness areas for the five day training period (e.g. fitness center, outdoor pool, tennis courts and recreation trails), and a class picture. Lodging is available on campus in a dormitory style room at the cost of $58.00 per night or $290.00 for the week (double occupancy rooms). This cost is in addition to the course fee. We respectfully request that all payments be accomplished two weeks prior to the beginning of the training. Preferred method of course payment is through credit card, but PO’s are accepted if notified at time of course registration. Course Instructors: Includes members from the following municipal and campus law enforcement agencies who hold various certifications, including NYS DCJS Instructor, International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) and Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA): Ithaca College, Cornell University, and the City of Ithaca Police Department.
Special Note: This is a rigorous and physically demanding training course. Participants should be in good physical shape and are expected to satisfactorily pass all aspects of the training.
