General Working Questions
How many hours a week is a student permitted to work?
Students may work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, which includes all Ithaca College employment, when school is in session. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they do not work over 20 hours each week.
Do students get paid for holidays or sick leave?
No. Students are part-time employees, and not eligible for paid time off benefits.
Do students have to wear a uniform to work?
This depends on where they are working. Dining Services provides a shirt and hat to wear to work and does not allow loose fitting jeans or jeans with holes in them. They also require that hair be tied back (hairnets are not required). Dining Services requires that the shirt and hat be brought back to them when a student is done working, or they will be charged for them. Most other campus departments do have a dress code. Check with your supervisor about what the appropriate work attire is for your area.
